I was reading tonight in a magazine titled "Assemblies of God Heritage", and this issue is all about influential ministers that made great sacrifice and impact during the depression in the '30s; and the impact of missions in WWII P.O.W. camps.
This one man named C. M. Ward started a radio program called "Revivaltime" which broadcast from 1953-1978. He and his wife were married Chrismas Day, 1929 - one month after Black Friday! He couldn't even afford a wedding band!
There was something said in this particular article, written by the magazine editor, that struck a chord in my heart. Regarding C. M. Ward, he wrote:
"He later learned that times of deprivation like this birthed one of two things:
either despair or desperation. Despair caused people to simply give up, but
desparation spurred people to work hard and to be creative."
DEPRIVATION births either DESPAIR or DESPERATION.
Will we give up or fight harder?!
Sure the economy is struggling. Yeah, the "Big 3" are not lookin' so big. I know that the job market is more like a little yard sale.
But how will we respond? Will we curl up in a little ball and resort to infant-like responses to something scary - cry and hide? Or will we look to The Provider and stand in the face of deprivation, and live the truth that we are made complete in Christ?
He shall supply all our needs! (Philippians 4:19)
He has overcome the world! (John 16:33)
He has made us complete! (Colossians 2:10)
He will build His church despite any circumstances! (Matthew 16:18)
He casts out all fear! (1 John 4:18)
How are you responding to the hard times we are facing?
Standing in His Truth... (because that's all I've got!)

when 'truth' is all you've got, you've got it all!
